Celebrating and Protecting Our Planet: Earth Month 2018

This April marks the 48th anniversary of Earth Day. While Earth Day officially takes place on April 22, our employees are participating in and supporting local earth fairs throughout this month, and our environmental sustainability initiatives are ongoing.

Today, SDG&E held our own earth fair at our Century Park headquarters to inspire our employees to engage in various projects and programs that promote biodiversity, habitat conservation, pollution prevention, and carbon-free transportation. One of the highlights of the event is a beautiful chalk mural, representing our region’s biodiversity.

Earth Month Festivities for the Entire Family

Over the next few weeks, there are many opportunities to celebrate Earth Day. Below is a selection of events that we will be participating in. You are invited to join us.

Our clean transportation team will be there to answer questions about EVs and showcase four low and zero-emissions fleet vehicles.
  • Earth Day Festival in Downtown Oceanside, Saturday, April 14, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.: Attendees will enjoy live music from local bands, a Kids Eco-Zone, where children will learn how to recycle, save water, and enjoy the outdoors. Stop by our booth to learn about our company, including our environmental initiatives.
  • EarthFair 2018 at Balboa Park, Sunday, April 22, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.: We are a proud sponsor of the 29th annual EarthFair, which will feature more than 300 exhibitors, special theme areas, a food pavilion, a children's activity area, four entertainment venues, Children’s Earth Parade, the eARTh Gallery arts and crafts show, and the Cleaner Car Concourse. We will be there with a booth to share information about our clean energy, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability programs and much more.

Earth Day is 365 Days a Year

Throughout the year, we collaborate with organizations such as the San Diego Audubon Society and the Escondido Creek Conservancy to protect and restore precious habitat and promote conservation. To date, our contributions have helped protect 130 endangered and sensitive species, and preserved more than 12,000 acres of high-quality habitat.

We also support local organizations through our Environmental Champions initiative, which provides grants to nonprofit organizations whose programs promote environmental education, community engagement, and stewardship in underserved communities.
