San Diego Business Journal Features SDG&E’s Innovative Energy Storage Project

Editor's note:  This week’s edition of the San Diego Business Journal, January 9–15, features the largest battery energy storage project in America—SDG&E’s 30-megawatt (MW) energy storage project under construction in Escondido, which will be completed in early 2017.

SDG&E sees energy storage as a flexible and reliable option for getting clean power to customers when they need it most.  The battery will act like a sponge, soaking up energy when it is abundant—during the day when the sun shines or late at night when the wind is blowing—and then releasing it when energy resources are in high demand.

Today, SDG&E has approximately 100 MW of energy storage projects completed or contracted, which will allow us to supply more renewables to our customers and help strengthen our reputation as the most reliable utility in the west.
