SDG&E and the San Diego Padres Team Up for “Going to Bat for San Diego”

Partnership supports organizations committed to keeping San Diego safe

As the San Diego Padres prepare to take the field for the first time this season, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and San Diego’s hometown team announced they are once again teaming up to make the baseball season about more than baseball. Today marks the beginning of “season two” of “Going to Bat for San Diego”—a season-long effort that brings SDG&E and the Padres together to support 11 non-profit organizations dedicated to keeping San Diego safe.

“This partnership was formed out of a vision of doing more to build a better community,” said Caroline Winn, chief operating officer for SDG&E. “As we enter ‘season two’ we’re highlighting organizations that focus each and every day on building a more resilient region, a community that is prepared for and ready to respond when emergencies happen.”

The partnership began with mutual interest between the Padres and SDG&E to give back to the community. This year, the program is focused on core partners who make it their mission to ensure San Diego is working to prevent crises, but is also ready to respond should an emergency occur. Organizations that will benefit from “Going to Bat for San Diego” include the San Diego & Imperial Counties American Red Cross, Burn Institute, San Diego Police Foundation, San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation, San Diego County Deputy Sheriff’s Foundation and San Diego Regional Fire Foundation,  San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation and STAR/PAL .  

“The Padres are committed to San Diego,” said Ron Fowler, executive chairman for the San Diego Padres. “The people who keep our community safe need our support and we believe that the ‘Going to Bat for San Diego’ partnership with SDG&E helps the community and supports the organizations doing this important work. Our shared goal with this effort is to help build a stronger, more prepared, more resilient San Diego.”

Fans can help support the “Going to Bat for San Diego” giving initiative by simply purchasing a hot dog at the ballpark. For every hot dog purchased at Petco Park, SDG&E will match your purchase with a donation to San Diego Crime Stoppers, 2-1-1 San Diego or the San Diego Police Officer's Association. By the end of the season, SDG&E will contribute more than $400,000 in shareholder-funded charitable giving to organizations working to better San Diego.
